so i started writing a story, which is strange for me because i never write, but anyway, i looked it over and i realized how much i’m influenced by tolkien. i feel like anything i write would just be a poor rip off of his writing. also, i never realized how much i like using imagery.
“As long as there’s such a thing as time, everybody’s damaged in the end, changed into something else. It always happens, sooner or later.”—Haruki Murakami, from: “Kafka on the Shore” (via astonishments)
“I have claimed that Escape is one of the main functions of fairy-stories, and since I do not disapprove of them, it is plain that I do not accept the tone of scorn or pity with which ‘Escape’ is now so often used. Why should a man be scorned if, finding himself in prison, he tries to get out and go home? Or if he cannot do so, he thinks and talks about other topics than jailers and prison-walls?”—J.R.R. Tolkien (via booksbymybed)
