After the Future. It’s a Marxist interpretation of the punk/cyberpunk/media revolution movements, all revolving around 1977 as the year when “the future died.” it makes absurd claims with absolutely no facts whatsoever and it’s infuriating to read. the author, bifo, claims that we no longer believe in the future and that we have no empathy and “are unable to touch or be touched.” he makes so few good points that it’s not even worth a read. like it’s stereotypical academic/philosophical bullshit that makes generalizations with no logic/facts or anything that makes an argument worthwhile.
i have to read an incredibly pretentious book for a class this summer and my professor was genuinely angry when i said this vonnegut quote was relevant to the book: “literature should not disappear up its own asshole, so to speak”
